Cone Beam 3D Scanner
A Cone Beam 3D Panoramic Scanner is a very impressive imaging machine that is capable of identifying many issues and structures that a normal X-Ray cannot. This cutting-edge technology takes a panoramic 3-D digital X-ray of the teeth, jaws and gums. Patients place their head on a chin rest, and the camera rotates around their head, getting a panoramic image the same way your smart-phone captures a skyline.
The Cone Beam Scanner is great because it helps us see a 3 dimensional, clearer, picture of a patient’s mouth. We can see the same thing a standard X-ray can (like cavities and gum disease), but we also get a better picture of cracked and broken teeth. We can even measure bone density, height and thickness which is important for people considering dental implants.
Another plus about the Cone Beam Scanner is that it replaces those annoying bite-wing X-rays (you know, the small ones that pinch the floor of your mouth when you bite down and that make you gag and choke). Because it’s digital, the Cone Beam Scanner also uses the least amount of radiation possible. In fact, believe it or not, you would get more radiation from reading a book, going outside in the sun or flying in an airplane than you would with an image from the Cone Beam Scanner!
